The Great Epics
He was born into the Kaurava family. On the eve of the war, he walked away from the side his brothers chose.
On the morning the war began, one of Dhritarashtra's hundred sons walked across the field to the other side.
In front of both armies, and nobody stopped him.
Yuyutsu was Dhritarashtra's son, and he was not Gandhari's.
During the two years Gandhari was with child, Dhritarashtra fathered a son on a Vaishya woman of the house.
The accounts name her Sughada, or Sauvali. And that child was Yuyutsu.
He was raised in the palace with the hundred. He was a Kaurava in every real sense. Same father, same house, same teaching, same table.
And he was not one of them, and everyone knew it.
