Tales of the Gods

The earth was the chariot, the sun and moon its wheels, a mountain the bow and a serpent the string. He did not release the arrow.

The three brothers had done their homework. The boon they bargained for is one of the most carefully drawn up in the Puranas.

Tarakaksha, Kamalaksha and Vidyunmali were the sons of Taraka, and after their father was killed they went and did austerities until Brahma came. They did not ask to live for ever. They had watched that fail. What they asked for was three cities. One of gold, one of silver, one of iron.
