True Valor
The campaign that finally beat him was not aimed at his army. It was aimed at the countryside that fed it.
Amar Singh signed, and Mewar has argued about it ever since. The argument is worth having properly, because what he signed is not what people assume.
Amar Singh was Pratap's eldest son and took Mewar in 1597. He had fought at Haldighati as a young man. And he had spent his adult life in the campaign.
He was with his father through the years in the hills. And at Dewair in 1582 he commanded.
The accounts credit him with a spear-thrust that went through a Mughal commander and his horse together.
What he inherited in 1597 was his father's position exactly: Chittor still lost, the state still unrecognised, and the war still on.
He fought it for eighteen more years.
Jahangir succeeded Akbar in 1605, and made Mewar a priority. He sent expedition after expedition.
