Tales of the Gods
Parvati asked him how he had become immortal. He agreed to tell her - somewhere no living thing could overhear it.
Parvati asked him how he had become immortal.
Not out of curiosity, and not to be told a story. She wanted the thing itself, from him, rather than take it from scripture or from somebody's teaching. She was his wife and she wanted to understand him completely.
Shiva agreed to tell her. But he set a condition, and it was absolute.
It had to be said somewhere no living thing could overhear it.
So they walked into the Himalayas together, and as they went he began leaving things behind.
He left Nandi, his bull, at the place now called Pahalgam.
He set down the crescent moon he wears at Chandanwari.
The rest of this story, read aloud, and a new one every day.
