The King Who Slept Through an Age

Kalayavana had never lost a battle, and he did not expect to start at Mathura. No weapon raised against him in battle could end his life.

Kalayavana had never lost a battle, and he did not expect to start at Mathura.

He had a boon, and it was a good one. No weapon raised against him in battle could end his life.

He was allied with Jarasandha, in the campaign that had finally pushed Krishna into moving his whole kingdom to the safety of the sea.

What Krishna was looking at

An army that could not be beaten by force, marching on a city that had just relocated its entire population overnight.

Kalayavana was advancing on empty streets.

And Krishna understood that this particular enemy was not going to be beaten by strength at all.

He would have to be beaten by patience - and by the kind of trick that only works on a man too certain of his own invincibility to notice he is being led somewhere on purpose.
