Tales of the Gods

The Demon Silenced Before He Could Ask

He spent years in penance preparing one sentence. The goddess struck him mute the moment before he could say it.

His name was Kamhasura, and he had spent years getting ready to ask for one thing.

The demon's penance was severe and it was long, and it was aimed at a single sentence he intended to say to Brahma when Brahma finally came. A boon that would make him effectively impossible to kill.

Adiparashakti was watching. She knew exactly what he meant to ask for.

So she got there first. She struck him mute.

And then Brahma arrived, as the penance had earned, and stood in front of him ready to grant whatever he wanted, and the demon opened his mouth and nothing came out.

Years of work. The god standing right there. And no voice.

Mooka means mute. He was Mookasura from that day on, the mute demon.

The goddess took her name from the same moment. Mookambika, and when she killed him afterwards, she fulfilled a prophecy that had said he could only be brought down by a woman.
