A father had already arranged his daughter's marriage to one god. She fled into a forest to win a different one entirely, building her own altar out of nothing but dirt and will.
Parvati had wanted only one thing since her childhood, to win Shiva as her own husband. She was the daughter of King Himavan, ruler of the mountains. She had set her heart on Shiva with a certainty nothing seemed able to shake.
Her father, though, had other plans for her. Himavan intended to marry his daughter to Vishnu instead, believing this to be the better match for her. When Parvati learned of her father's decision, she was overcome with grief. Her heart already belonged fully to Shiva. No other match, however grand, could change that.
