Vibhishana told his brother the truth in open court. He was kicked out of the hall for it. And he walked across to the enemy.

And the tradition has never agreed on what to call that.

The advice

Vibhishana was Ravana's younger brother. He had done the same austerities the others had. Brahma had granted him a boon too.

And what he asked for was this. That his mind should never turn to adharma. Even in the greatest difficulty.

When Sita was brought to Lanka, he said what he thought. Return her. He said it privately and then he said it in the assembly, and his argument was neither sentimental nor cowardly. It was this.

A woman has been taken by force, which is wrong. Her husband has already destroyed fourteen thousand rakshasas at Janasthana, on his own.

And Hanuman crossed the ocean, burnt the city, and left. Which tells you what is coming behind him. Give her back and we survive.
