True Valor

From Kedarnath to Rameswaram

She is paying for drinking water on roads she will never travel, in cities she does not govern.

Stand at Kedarnath, high in the Garhwal Himalaya. Then stand at Rameswaram, at the far tip of the south, twenty-five hundred kilometres away.

Neither site is convenient. Kedarnath is a hard climb up high, and snowed in much of the year. Rameswaram is an island at the far end of the land. These are the two far ends of the Hindu holy map. Reaching either from the middle of India in the 1700s meant months on the road.
