The Great Epics
He walked into Ravana's court unarmed, planted one foot, and gave the king one last chance.
He was the son of the man Rama had shot from behind a tree. Rama sent him into the enemy capital as his ambassador.
Angada was Vali's son.
Rama had killed his father, from concealment, without warning, during a fight with someone else. Angada was there for the aftermath, and Vali's last request had been that Rama look after the boy.
Rama did more than that. He had Sugriva crowned king of Kishkindha. And Angada made yuvaraja, heir apparent.
So the son of the dead king stood next in line. Under the uncle who had replaced him.
The arrangement was politically shrewd and personally impossible, and Angada lived inside it for the rest of the epic. Every day he served the alliance that had killed his father, alongside the uncle who had benefited.
